PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Like most who watched or attended Monday’s World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony, the highlight of the evening for Phil Mickelson were the speeches delivered by golf writing legend Dan Jenkins and player-turned-broadcaster Peter Alliss.
“I really enjoyed what they had to say,” Mickelson said. “They’ve presented the game in the written form and the verbal form so well and so entertaining. . . . Unfortunately they cut out some of Peter’s speech. I would have liked to have seen that in its entirety.”
As for his personal highlight, Mickelson said it was the drive to the ceremony in St. Augustine, with his wife.
“We were having a moment of reminiscing about all that we’ve experienced and all that the game has brought us, brought our family. That was probably the best time,” Mickelson said. “While (the other inductees) were speaking I was stressing over my speech and so I didn’t get a chance to enjoy it until I saw bits and pieces of it later.”
