IRVING, Texas – On Thursday, Phil Mickelson lamented his putting at the Byron Nelson Championship. On Friday, it was his ball-striking that had him annoyed.

“God, I hit it terrible today,” said Mickelson, who posted a 1-under 69 after opening with a 70. “There was no other way around it. I was getting a lot out of the round, and I just got some mechanical issues where I was not striking the ball very solid.”

The good news for Mickelson, who is playing his third consecutive event, is that he’s only six strokes off the lead and believes he can fix any swing issues prior to the third round.

“I’ve been hitting the ball well the last three weeks, and I haven’t been able to get much out of the round, so it was kind of nice to be hitting kind of sloppy and getting the most of it,” he explained. “But it’s not far off; I should be able to dial it in.”
