HONOLULU – Daniel Summerhays isn’t protesting the proposed anchored putter ban. It just looks that way.

Summerhays is using a 30-inch Ping model at this week’s Sony Open, which is actually two inches longer than the one he put into play at last year’s season-ending Children’s Miracle Network Classic.

“I’m just trying to get a little bit more over the ball and let my arms hang a little better,” he said. “Everyone keeps commenting on it, but it doesn’t feel too awkward to me.”

As to whether the short flatstick will find a permanent place in his bag, Summerhays explained, “Depends if it makes putts. I’ll do anything to make a putt.”
