Webb Simpson is the champion of the 112th U.S. Open.
Simpson shot a second consecutive 2-under 68 at The Olympic Club to win his first major championship at 1-over-par 281. He won by a shot over Graeme McDowell and Michael Thompson.
The 26-year-old is the ninth consecutive first-time major champion and the 15th different person to win in the last 15 majors played.
The final group of 54-hole co-leaders Jim Furyk and McDowell struggled for much of Sunday, but each came to the final hole of the championship with a chance to force an 18-hole playoff. Neither player could make the birdie needed to tie Simpson.
McDowell made par at the last to shoot 73 and finish in a tie for second place with first-round leader Thompson, who carded a Sunday-best 67.
Furyk bogeyed the last hole to shoot 74, ending in a tie for fourth place at 3 over par with David Toms, Padraig Harrington, John Peterson and Jason Dufner.
Tiger Woods shot 73 on Sunday, but rallied from a start which left him 6 over through six holes. Woods finished at 7 over par and tied for 21st place.
